Message from the 2015 Conference Program Chair
We hope you will agree that we have put together an outstanding program this year that reflects the SPS mission of promoting safe, high quality care, innovative research and quality professional education. Our inspirational theme for this year’s conference is “Pediatric Sedation: Building Bridges to Meet the Need for Quality Care” reflecting the St. Louis Arch as a gateway to new frontiers represented by pediatric procedural sedation as a clinical discipline. The conference will showcase our multidisciplinary teams and focus on linking our sedation providers with other clinical care teams to the ultimate benefit of our institutions and patients.
Starting with the welcome reception on Sunday evening, May 17, the 2015 Conference is filled with networking opportunities and outstanding learning experiences for all attendees. Based directly on feedback from previous conference attendees, this is a vital part of our meeting. Whether or not you are a member of the Society for Pediatric Sedation, plenary sessions and breakout sessions offer expert discussion on various aspects of procedural sedation: scheduled and urgent case approaches, medication administration, practical examples and instruction about quality tools and projects for your teams, review of pertinent literature, scientific review of potential side effects of our care and scientific presentations of ongoing sedation research.
If you are not currently a member of SPS, please consider joining. Of note for our members, the noon hour on Monday May 18 will be devoted to preliminary strategic planning for the Society – have your voice heard! Additionally, we are trying a new approach to committee meetings. All of these meetings on Sunday, May 17 are open to all members of the Society.
New this year - the SPS Sedation Provider Course© will be held the day AFTER the Conference on Wednesday, May 20 at the Saint Louis University Simulation Center.
The local planning committee wishes to thank the SPS Conference Planning Committee, the SPS Staff, the SPS Board of Directors, the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center for their invaluable assistance in planning the 2015 SPS Annual Conference.
To all who attend the conference, please feel free to tell us your ideas and suggestions for making this annual SPS event a continued success.
And finally, have a fabulous time in St. Louis.
